Do you think your best source of referrals is your customer?
That's actually a delusion. The reason people sometimes fall into this thinking is that they’ve been trained to believe it, and they’ve never really pursued any other source of r⋯⋯
eferrals. You'll notice that the only referrals they’ve ever received are from customers.

Now, don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying they’re not a good source of referrals, but they may not be the very best source of referrals. This is one of the reasons why I created BNI. I knew my customers were a great source of referrals, but I also knew that if I could develop a relationship with many other businesses, they would also be a great source of referrals.

In having this relationship, you are able to create this sort of symbiosis with them, where you’re referring to them and they’re referring to you. I personally found that although my customers are a good source of referrals, they were not the best source of referrals. And, if I worked with other businesses that were compatible to mine, I was able to develop a relationship with them and generate a lot business with them as well.
